A short excerpt from the song "Black & White." It's a single from the band's upcoming album positron. It's been a long time since they released new material. The band spent a long time thinking about how to present this new song to the audience. Ultimately, two fundamental things came to light that completely contradict today's current trends.
The song dates back to an early period in the band's history and was never fully recorded in the studio. After the vocal recordings, the song sat in a drawer for a long time. However, the song's "vibe" is very distinctive and hypnotic, which eventually led to a rather long version of the song, which also included a long instrumental piece. So, the decision was made to release the song in this long version. It's the "radio edit," so to speak. The version is over seven minutes long. There were numerous concepts and ideas for the video for the song.
All of these were discarded after talking to music consumers about their perception and individual processing of music. This led to a completely new approach. The core of these findings was that every music listener classifies and connects a song differently. This depends on their personality, old and new experiences, and individual perspectives. All of this creates an image in the mind, but a different image in each mind. A classic music video is often conceived by a director who implements their vision as they understood the song. Accordingly, all music listeners see exclusively the director's vision.
Once that's in the minds of the music listeners, it manifests itself. So this very simple and crazy idea came about: not to produce a video, so that each listener could create their own images in their mind.

Electropop duo Positron is thrilled to announce the upcoming release of their new single, "Black and White," a compelling preview of their highly anticipated album set to drop later this year. This marks a significant milestone as Positron celebrates their 20th anniversary in the electronic music scene!
The journey towards this landmark album began in 2023 with initial planning for a collection that promises to blend both classic and brand-new material. "Black and White" serves as a perfect introduction to this retrospective yet forward-looking project.
The single itself is a mid-tempo track characterized by a very distinctive pattern and playful percussive elements. The song literally seems to float along, creating a mesmerizing atmosphere. What truly sets it apart? Its impressive seven-minute runtime.
"Black and White" stems from a nearly monotonous but hypnotic theme conceived by the band back in 2009. It wasn't until 2012 that Positron added lyrics and recorded the track for the first time. Fans can also anticipate the likely release of this original, raw version shortly after the single.
The band explained their decision for the extended length: "The song had been almost finished for quite some time, but we just couldn't settle on a final mix. Originally, 'Black and White' was also an instrumental track from 2009." Despite having a more typical "single edit" available, Positron made the bold choice to release the full seven-minute version, allowing listeners to fully immerse themselves in its intricate soundscape.
"Black and White" was produced by Positron themselves, ensuring their signature sound shines through. The mastering was expertly handled by Canay (Scarecrow, Omdulö), a familiar collaborator with whom the band has worked extensively in the past.

positron has been around since 2005. That was a time when Youtube was just being born. Back then, the world looked very different for musicians and artists. At that time positron had e.g. Musician profiles on portals like mp3.de lastfm, justaloud, jump comunity, sputnik community, myspace and others. All of that no longer exists. That means the years of work to build up a profile was pointless. Even with today's platforms, some will eventually stop serving.

Only vintage Vermona instruments and gear from the GDR era were used. The idea behind it was to make the tracks sound as if they had been recorded somewhere in Saxony in the late 1970s.
